House of Reps Fighting & Fasting

Nigeria political arena never ceases to amaze me, but this is one of the most tumultuous week ever. A free-for-all fight erupted at the House of Representatives' Hearing Room One, with House members loyal to Madam Speaker Patricia Olubunmi Etteh and her critics trading punches and wrestling one another to the ground. However, they quickly decided to placate some house members by distributing gifts meant for Sallah at the end of the week.

Food items like rice, milk, sugar and vegetable oil worth about N43.2m are now being distributed to all members of the Federal House of Representatives. Each member is collecting two cartons of milk, one gallon of vegetable oil, two bags of rice and one carton of sugar. Some members, however, expressed surprise that gifts meant for Sallah were being distributed to all members, irrespective of their religious persuasions, well ahead of the Sallah festivities, which is expected to be marked on October 13.

The gifts, which many members have already collected, is raising eyebrows as some members are wondering why its distribution is so close to the Wednesday date set for receiving the report of the panel investigating the N628m contract scandal.“HERE...

While the rest of the nation is grappling with the harsh economic realities of feeding members of their family with little or no resources, these house legislators are busy awarding fraudulent contracts, fighting like animals in the house chambers and doling out govt largesse for some religious celebration without even passing a single Bill that will help alleviate the sufferings of ordinary Nigerians. These are supposedly lawmakers who turn out to be law breakers in a show of shame. Because they are not duly elected, this kind of despicable behaviour will linger on in our political arena, until the Nigerian electorate exercise their rights to hold leaders accountable by electing people with character that will represent them.
Like I have said in my earlier post “HERE., a house divided against itself cannot stand. Madam Speaker needs to resign NOW!

Agbaya to o mo iwon ara re.....
I am sorry if u are not Yoruba. The long and short is that a good for nothing person obviously has no value of self.
This is disgraceful. We women keep begging for opportunities. They give it to a few and they disgrace us as such. Then that prompts men to behave anyhow....
shame is an understatement right now. I can bet this is on CNN

you told me on Funmi Iyanda's blog.. that you have a streaming video on your site which will answer my question...
Actually it doesn't. It just raises more questions.

In this video.. the woman in question sits down to sign something.. A guy in suit becomes verbally aggressive, not only that.. he jumps over a table and has to be restrained. He keeps talking, until another man turns around and yaps back.. then someone throws a punch.

Nowhere in all this melee is this woman who is facing accusations and is called to answer questions in the senate.

2 grown ass men decided to fight based on whatever and everyone sdecides that they should blame that ridiculous display on the woman?

Are the men idiots?. Are Nigerian men babies?. Did she remote control them?
What did the man in the suit say that was sooo bad that the other man responded.
Why did he jump over the table acting as if he was going to approach her?

Are people seriously blaming this woman becaue these 2 grown ass men forgot how to act in a decent manner?
Is she their mother?. Is she responsible for raising them?

Gosh have Nigerians completely lost their goddamn minds?

Why can't this woman just facce the charges and faces the senate with what ever she is being accussed of.

Why is her behaviour and her behaviour alone now being held up as the incapabilities of women ironically by some women.

this is beyond a joke. it is a stupid and sick shambolic witch hunt based on some dodgy crap.

Let this woman face the senate...
and if she is found guilty.. let her be charged.
Let those 2 men face a disconduct charge...

But let it be known .. that this woman is NOT responsible for the behaviour of these 2 grown ass men.

Goddamnit! Nigerians kill me with this bullshit.

who said it was the woman's fault that they fought? they fought because they are on opposite sides of the woman, or at least that is what i think...

@ Soul,
Understanding the root cause of this whole political brouhaha before you launch into a litany of questions will do you a lot of good. This is not an indictment against women or women in Nigerian politics. When one's leadership has been called to question and one, whose actions led to a total chaos in the house; the honorable thing for this woman to do is resign.

@politricks... You are copping out and playing your own version of 'politricks'

The key to understanding is in asking questions?. I ask, you tell me to go and understand first before I ask? lol. what a joke.

In your eagerness to appear to know what you are talking about, I think the definition of Irony and 'rhetorical questions' have slipped past you by, right along with the fact many of the comments surrounding this issue have been about the fact that whatever this woman is accused of, she is a bad representative of women. That she has let women down. (as is evidenced on Funmi's blog, where you first responded to my questions)
I think that's silly. period. And I highlighted that in my response.
Whatever this woman is accused of, if she is guilty she should be punished....
But she is in no way responsible for those 2 oafs misbehaviour in the house of senate.

Your video shows 2 men, completely lose it and act like orangutans!. She did not coerce them.. they have free will.
her actions did notlead to chaos in the senate, the actions of those 2 men did. She didn't even say a word.

Yet you think she is responsible for their idiotic shenanigans.
oh! for shame.

Once again, if you couldn't answer the questions, you shouldn't have directed me to your blog under false pretenses that you could.

And if you can't answer a question, or if answering a question puts you in a opposition of the view you currently hold, or causes you to actually think about what you are saying....
Then simply say you don;t have an answer for it and move on.

@ Soul,
maybe when u take time to understand political issues, then you can ask reasonable questions deserving of a response...until then, read the posting to get your mind right, enjoy the video and take a chill pill or at best drink some Kool Aid!
