Four ex-governors charged with money laundering

For more than 40 days after the former governors have left office, the lame duck EFCC has finally grown some balls to now charge four ex-governors with money laundering charges in several billions of naira belonging to their respective states. The ex-governors are Joshua Dariye (Plateau); Saminu Turaki (Jigawa); Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia) and Jolly Nyame (Taraba).

This action by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have long been awaited by majority of Nigerians who wants to see justice
done. We have long advocated that ex-politricksians who have been found to curruptly enriched themselves and have taking looting of the public treasury as a fovourite past time, be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and be made to face the consequences of their action.

The prosecution of these four ex-governors may be a start in cleasing our polity of currupt practices by Nigerian politricksians, but the EFCC should also endeavour to go after the rest of the Nigerian political class and their cronies who have contravened the law by stealing from the Nigerian people.

The time to start holding our politricksians to account for the injustice done to the Nigerian people is NOW!

We need a thorough clean-up in Nigeria. It has to start somewhere, with/by someone, I guess. Happy weekend.

Such things take time. We are too impatient as a people. Being the 'pioneer set', most of them would be arrested and tried, some would escape. The important thing is the message being sent out.

More importantly is if eventually, the system is tightened to such an extent that no one can be above the law.
